As the year comes to a close so too does the fun horse shows at the Belmont County Fairgrounds. These are languid days of riders out playing with their horses in non-traditional classes such as panty hose races and egg and spoon.

Throwback to Sunflower Sessions
Last year five minutes from my house a local farm grew an area or so of sunflowers that they opened to the public. My sister, niece and I went out to cut a few boutiques and take pictures for a fun fall afternoon. Also to fulfill a photography dream shoot.

My first cattle sort was actually a two day event. The first day being the experienced drive and the second day being the “fun show” version.
I will say I loved the speed and agility of the competitors in the open but the length and size of the “fun show”. Perhaps because my body was just in pain, but also because it was a much, much shorter day in comparison to day one.

I thrive on challenge and taking the best images I can even when it is something new. I will stand for hours even when my body aches and cries for me to get off hard ground, slip the camera bag off, and the camera and take a break. I put my all into covering events even when they are new because I want to surprise everyone with my images and surprise myself.

A lot of people find photography to be a very glamorous job. There is the travel, and taking pictures and doing cool things that give that impression but those things and social media doesn’t necessarily give the full impression of the reality of being a photographer.
I am talking about all the work we do, the hours we spent editing, curating galleries, answering questions, responding emails, and then obsessively checking for sales when we let the images we painstakingly took, curated, and perfected go live.
