Taking on the challenge that is sorting I was back out at a Grizzle for their November sort. Sorting is a challenge to photograph not because of the number of bodies in the pen but because of the size of the pen which limits the option for what lenses can easily be used.
For me as an action photographer I love my 70-200 mm lens length. It is standard, yet versatile enough to cover nearly all the action sharply, but this focal range just doesn't cut it for sorting. The first sort I used my 18-135 mm lens which did ok however it was much earlier in the season when there was still good light to be had but as the evening progressed more blur became common as the lens struggling in the low lighting.
In November not only are the days shorter but that Sunday it was pouring down rain and overcast which limited the amount of light in the indoor arena to overhead and made the 18-135 mm lens less than ideal. However here comes the prime lenses to the rescue, I started with the nifty-fifty but then switched over to the 24 mm prime in order to cover a wider area.
