Last year my very good friend and his partner started a Dahlia field and business. They invited me up to spend a day among their flowers and just take whatever photo captured my interest of their blooms after all their hard labor. It was a great relaxing day spent with my friend doing what I love in a no pressure situation that lead to some great images including an international honorable mention.
So we repeated the day this year with different results. First, this year started with storms and tornados and quickly descended into a drought the likes this area hasn’t seen since the 1800s. Keeping anything alive is a challenge in these conditions, so I was thankful for whatever images I could get with the blooms they had.
Check out a few of my favorite images below… also some were made with studio lighting to create that natural black background.
