For this flash back Friday I wanted to focus on landscapes. In 2012 I traveled the world with Semester at Sea and had the incredible opportunity to make some beautiful seascapes and to learn more about myself as a photographer and grow.
The below image was taken in December of 2012 as we sailed into Roseau, Dominica. It remains to this day as one of my favorite photographs. It was incredibly beautiful then and it reminds me of the sea spray on my face and a trip that changed my life and gave me amazing friends.
My comparison image is from my trip to Alaska, taken in Skagway as the cruise ship I was aboard was preparing to leave the port for the next destination. It brings back the memories of the beautiful landscapes to be found in my own country and a pleasant trip with my family.
Each image is good and mother nature really did most of the work. The difference in these photos to me is my equipment, in 2012 I was using an Olympus Evolt 520 and in Alaska I was using a Canon 80D. In 2012 my lens choice was 15-55 mm kit lens and in Alaska I was using a 70-200 mm f2.8 lens— which allowed me to shoot this mountain scene below from a great, great distance.
