How to plan a fun Christmas Shoot

I am not big on themed photoshoots. Namely because the images have a very short shelve life in my own personal opinion. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a subset of clients out there who don’t want themed sessions. In fact it is the opposite there is a great many who want themed sessions for the fun and novelty of it.

In fact even people like myself who believe they have a short shelve life sometimes get inspired and sometimes desire to do one because they can be very fun.

So the first step in planning a fun Christmas Shoot is to decide what kinds of photos you are wanting. Are you wants adorable family portraits you can leave on a wall year round or do you desire to dress your fur child in Christmas gear and see what kinds of shots you get?

Whatever you decide the next step is deciding if you can take the shots yourself with your phone or if it is best to call in a professional. I always say opt for a professional but I am definitely biased.

From there it is the look you are trying to achieve this can be coordinating photos, tree set up, holiday lights, and color scheming. You can decide everyone is wearing onesies or ugly Christmas sweaters. You can want sleek golden decorations and white and bright colors. Modern, traditional, and so much more.

For me this year I am going to attempt matching pjs with my pup and self take photos of us. I am hoping for the best as my pup notoriously hates photos— no idea why— and started shopping and the decoration prep early all in hopes of achieving one cute photo to share.

The last two years have been hard we deserve to take cute and fun photos even if they only have temporary shelve lives. Stay tuned hopefully I will have my Christmas pup/me shoot finished and edited soon! Also lets hope my pup cooperates he truly hates the camera!
