I have been a photographer for many, many, years. I have learned to run a business and I have made all the difficult decisions. One of them being making my pricing transparent a few years ago.
A lot of photographers do not list their prices so that they generate inquiries and can convince someone to choose them even if the prices aren’t line with their budget. I used to do the same because that was what all the professionals around me were doing. Until one day I just got tired of it, tired of potential clients feeling let down because they couldn’t afford my prices.
So I decided to make my prices transparent, they are listed on my website now and yes it does cut down on the number of inquiries. But I also have a lot less stressful conversations. However I still like to stress to my clients to never be afraid to ask about booking even if my prices seem out of range.
I pride myself in working with clients and helping them to realize their dreams and book the professional they want behind the camera. I am willing to work with my clients to ensure that I can do that. I know other photographers who are the same. Asking goes a long way— now do not expect a miracle I will always do what I can to accommodate and get prices down but there is only so much I can shave off as well.
