Is It Time to Quit?

I recently stumbled across an article about knowing when it was time to quit photography. Not the business of photography but photography.

I have hinted around at possibly, in the future stepping back as a business and doing photography for fun, as a hobby again. This is because the challenge of running a business, especially an art business can be very exhausting. But I have never considered giving photography up altogether, I have been an artist since I was eight years old stopping another form of art I love would be killing my soul.

But the article had certain merits to it.

If a photography business is detrimental to your mental health or financial stability then maybe stepping back from the business is a good idea.

What I mean is very, very few photographers can make it running a business and be successful. Many others do photography on the side and have a day job. Guess what there is nothing wrong with that, sometimes that is the lower stress way to go.

I have tried both. Being a full time photographer and a part time photographer with a day job. My preference is actually having a day job with a flexible schedule so I can live in both worlds but sometimes a flexible schedule in a corporate world is also a pipe dream.

Anyways, the article was super interesting and if you are a photographer struggling and thinking of quitting it is worth a read.
