Animals are an undeniable part of our society, and our culture. They are companions, they are substance, and they are passion. For the vast majority of us there is some kind of animal in our life, for others animals are our lives.

My siblings and I grew up on a farm, we have raised, breed, and trained all manner of animals. This is in part why I called animals substance because we raised livestock for meat purposes, just as we raised show animals and regular pets. We experienced all the higher and lowes that went along with farm life and animals as well; but it made us responsible and hard working adults with a passion.

Of course each of us developed a different interest in different animals. My sister is the one who took too the horses the most and she is the one who still owns and competes with the horses today. I very much was smaller animal minded and different animal— Llamas and Alpacas was a passion for awhile at least until college came along. I did have horses as a child of course and rode but that passion changed a lot after an accident that did a number on my leg.

My animal passion has been redirected into photography where I still get to be around and apart of the world without all the farm ownership and work— guys not carrying water in the winter is amazing! Yet for my sister she wanted her own daughter to have the same experiences she did and so when my niece was a year old she got her first mini.

The above image is my niece with her mini before her 5th birthday because like a bad aunt I have no idea where the images are from the first day we brought the mini home that she named Seahorse — which I think was because she was one and could point and say see horse.

Seahorse was an older mini when we got her and a great little pony for my niece to learn to groom, care for and ride. Unfortunately Seahorse in the last year had a lot of health complications and Thursday, May 12th she crossed the rainbow bridge. We will miss Seahorse but I was honored to captured some lasting photos of the two together as well as Seahorse before her last day.

While out at the barn the day before Seahorse crossed the rainbow bridge I took a few shots of my sisters paint mare as well.
