Going for the Dream

Ever since high school the dream was to have an art career, something I loved so it was more fulfill than work. For the most part I have made that happen yet the dream like all things as changed over the years. For the longest time now I have wanted not just to be a photographer or an equine photographer but potentially a university photographer.

Why?

A lot is missing the university life. Of witnessing the youth study, grow, and work toward success. Of being apart of something just a little bit more.

I got my first taste when I was a photographers assistant for Semester at Sea then sponsored by the University of Virigina. I was in the know for everything and basically lived with a camera in my hand. I have found memories of calling myself a professional stalker vs photographer while living on a ship. It was a unique environment where besides capturing what was happening we were on assignment to get photographs for marketing and social media, end of voyage videos and articles.

I learned a lot but being in the pulse and never shooting the same thing day to day was awesome. I loved every minute of it and I loved getting to shoot some marketing stuff and events for my home university when I returned. But then life happened I took other jobs, I was developing and shooting my business, traveling and living on the road.

It wasn’t until I was considering retiring as a rodeo photographer that I started thinking of other options and researching new career paths. That was when I found university photographer and so the process began putting my name forth applying every time I found an opening and getting one or two interview.

So far I haven’t had much luck, it is my hope that one day soon I can realize that dream but if not I guess I will just have to build another.
